Fast Track Italy

Italy has a quirk that shapes the fast track decision: its big cities are served by two airports with opposite profiles. Rome splits its traffic between Fiumicino, the intercontinental hub, and Ciampino, which handles low-cost. Milan is served by Bergamo, fifty kilometres from the centre, whose peaks follow charter rotations.

The gap widens at the low-cost airports. At Ciampino and Bergamo, landside space is tight and traffic bunches into a few hours: the queue builds quickly and clears slowly. At Fiumicino, far larger, the issue is less the queue than the distance still to cover once you are through.

In the south and on the Adriatic, the season decides. Catania, Naples and Venice see traffic roughly double between May and September, with mornings the heaviest.

Check your departure airport rather than your city: in Rome as in Milan, the two fields have little in common. Your voucher arrives by email as soon as payment clears, as a QR code valid for the date you chose.
